Founded in 2009, Detroit Wushu Academy (DWA) creates a positive impact on the community by teaching people about integrity, respect, perseverance, self-discipline and self-confidence. Students gain a sense of power in their lives by developing their physical and mental potential through martial arts. DWA offers full-body conditioning that develops every muscle. We have a low student-teacher ratio, professional-level coaching, and a program that focuses on skill mastery rather than rank advancement.

What is Wushu?

Wushu (more commonly known as Kung Fu) is the style of martial arts displayed in movies such as Kung Fu Panda, Mulan, Forbidden Kingdom, and in TV shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is a dynamic, flowing martial art from that uses coordination, power, and grace. Wushu is an efficient method for acieving health, fitness, self-defense skills, mental displince, and can be practiced for recreation or for competition. It is the most exciting martial art to be seen felt, and practiced.
